The Impact Center embraces a career ecosystem philosophy, recognizing career readiness as a shared responsibility across the university. Faculty play an essential role by helping students connect classroom learning to future careers. Small changes in language, reflection, or assignment design can help students recognize and articulate the valuable skills they are already developing.
What is Career Readiness?
Career readiness is the foundation upon which students build successful careers. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), career readiness consists of eight competencies employers consistently seek in new graduates.
Why Career Readiness Matters
A college education prepares students not only for their first job, but for a lifetime of learning and leadership. Employers consistently seek transferable skills such as communication, critical thinking, teamwork, professionalism, and adaptability. These are skills students develop every day through their academic experiences. By helping students recognize and articulate these competencies, faculty connect classroom learning to future careers and prepare graduates for success in an evolving workforce.
