What was your first professional job after you graduated? Was it related to your major? If not, how did you discover this job?
My first professional job after I graduated was a receptionist at Osborn Engineering in downtown Cleveland. It was related to my major because I did a lot of work across multiple departments including marketing, accounting, and administration. I got this job after I interned with them during the summer before my senior year of college after connecting with another alumni from Muskingum, Rachele Steck. She is the director of human resources at Osborn Engineering and offered me the internship position which then later turned into a full time job the summer after I graduated.
What do you do in your current job?
My current job is teaching high school students the same things I learned in the college.
What advice about working in your career field do you have for students?
Advice that I would give to current students is to take any job you can get in the space you want to be in. Even if it isn’t the job title you want right away, being in the space to learn from industry professionals and make connections will help a lot. It is also so important to start networking sooner rather than later. Go to the events, talk to the grownups, and put yourself out there. Lastly, don’t be afraid to take a job that you thought you never even thought of before. It could turn out to be the best job you’ve ever had. I never thought about being a teacher and yet here I am. And it is the best job ever!
